Vermont

Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.
Psalms 90:2

While Scott was in Chicago for the General Synod meetings, I decided to pack up the boys and go to Vermont for a few days. Vermont is one of my favourite places to visit ~ I love the green mountains!

We met my parents in Massena, NY and they travelled along with us.
It is about a 3 hour drive to the state line. We stayed in Burlington, VT.

My mom and Zach walking ahead.
We went downtown Burlington where they have a pedestrian mall on Church St.

A trip to Vermont wouldn't be complete without a stop at Ben & Jerry's for some ice cream!

Our hotel had a pretty patio overlooking a pond where we were able to enjoy our breakfast in the mornings.

Father's Day

Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD— rejoice in his presence! Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” Psalm 68:4-5

Dad and I... 1974?? Love the hat dad!

We had a great Father's Day on Sunday.... the weather was beautiful, and the family was all together. Here are a few pictures from our day....

Perseverance

My Project last week.... Paint the corner cabinet. Sounds easy enough...but somehow an easy project turned into a much more complicated and frustrating task.
This 'hand-me-down' from my Grandma Alguire had been on my to-do-list for the past little while. The top which was split, needed some repair. So, when my dad was over to visit, I asked for his advice and he helped me fix it. With the top now fixed, it needed a fresh coat of paint. I knew it had oil based paint covering it, so when I went to the hardware store I told the person in the paint department this information. This person told me that I did not need to prime, but that the latex paint would cover just fine. I thought, that's great - one less step, but I was still a little hesitant not to prime first. So, I went to another store and another paint department and asked another person.  Again, I was told the same thing.... no need to prime first. Alright, I figured I had 'measured twice in order to cut once'.
Well, let me warn anyone out there who might be about to tackle the same sort of project. Prime first!! There is no new and wonderful latex paint that will cover oil based paint (at least that I know of).
Because, after completely painting my cabinet and letting it dry, the paint peeled off.

For those who know me well, you will know that I am not always patient, but I can be stubborn and will persevere to complete a task. So, I scraped off all the paint I had just put on, and began all over again - this time priming first!

My cabinet now looks great - and the paint is staying where its suppose to! Lesson learned... the hard way :)

Broken Arm

I figured this day would eventually come... 2 active boys, heavily involved in sports = broken bones!

He was excited to go back to school and have everyone sign his cast!

As a mom, I hope I don't have to experience a day like this again....
How it happened... Carter was biking home from church by himself (we live just around the block). As he was coasting down the hill getting near our street (carrying the leftover communion bread) a truck turned towards him. The truck, a little too close for Carter's comfort caused Carter to panic. He lost his balance and fell. We are so very thankful he didn't fall in the direction of the truck.
As soon as we got home, we took him over to River hospital... he had broken his left wrist. After they x-rayed him, they fitted him with a splint.
Today we went to see the orthopedic doctor. We learned that the bone had to be set.  The doctor said he wouldn't lie to Carter... it was going to hurt! My heart ached for my boy wishing I could take his spot... but he was a trooper!! After popping it back into place (and wiping away the tears - mostly mine), they put him in a cast and x-rayed again - everything looked good. We are hoping and praying for a quick recovery - but he'll be in the cast for at least a month. Poor guy - no more baseball, and probably no summer sports camps.
I have already made Zach promise me that he will never break any bones!

House Hunting in Michigan

For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Psalm 86:10

Scott and I just returned from being in Michigan for the week. We went hoping and praying that we would find a home for our family to settle into for when we make our move to Michigan. We looked at ten homes on Tuesday and Wednesday, and when we saw the ninth one - I think we knew it was the one. We put an offer on it on Wednesday afternoon and we came to an agreement today! I wasn't sure if it would be possible to find and buy a house in two days, but God is good and He provided for us. Its still isn't quite final, a home inspection still needs to be done - but its hard not to be excited! I am already thinking of paint colors and where to place the furniture. The house is in Wayland, MI. Scott will have approximately a fifteen minute drive to church and the schools are within walking distance for the boys.

It wasn't all house hunting...we were able to stay a night at a beach house on Lake Michigan. A huge thank you to the lovely couple from church who allowed us to enjoy their home for the night. What a gorgeous spot!

On our way home, we stopped and spent the night with family. We enjoyed visiting with Scott's mom, got to see my sister-in-law Cindy and brother-in-law briefly at our nephew Dylan's soccer game and then stayed the night at my other sister-in-law Sue and brother-in-law Dave's home. It was so nice to see everyone!

1000 Islands Artist Studio Tour

Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. ~ Colossians 3:23

I was very excited to take part in the 1000 Islands Artist Studio Tour this past Memorial Day weekend. I opened up our home on Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 5pm. I welcomed friends, and people I had never met - even met a lovely couple from Philadelphia, PA who were visiting the area.

Our dining room was transformed into an art gallery! The actual room
where I do most of my painting is to the right.

In spite of the beautiful weather, I was pleased with the number of people that came.
I sold 9 paintings and all the greeting cards that I had printed.

Here are some of the painting I had on display...

I had lots of fun showing people my work... its definitely something I would do again! :)
